Former Nigerian President Muhammadu
Buhari, who passed away earlier today in the United Kingdom, will be buried in Nigeria, the presidency has confirmed.
According to reports by *PREMIUM TIMES*, the former president died at a London hospital following a prolonged illness. The official announcement of his passing was made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who disclosed that Mr Buhari died at approximately 4:30 p.m. local time.
In a move reflecting the nation's respect for the late leader, President Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel to the UK to accompany Mr Buhari’s remains back to Nigeria. Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga noted in a statement that the former president will be buried in accordance with Islamic rites, which call for immediate burial after death.
President Tinubu has spoken with Aisha Buhari, the widow of the late president, and expressed his deep condolences on behalf of the nation. As a mark of respect, he also ordered that the national flag be flown at half-staff.
